The history of the Guge kingdom can be traced back to the 9th century. It was set up by the descent of the Tu Fan dynasty, descended by 16 monarchs which took more than 800 years. It was not until the 17th century, the political power devoured and the whole kingdom disappeared due to the inside coup of the monks. Ever since then, the trace of the populace became a secret.

The ancient ruins of the Guge Kingdom was located besides the southern Elephant Spring River, Zha Da county, Ngari, Tibet. In the realm of the existing sites, Permian built mountains, from the bottom up, to a height of about 300 meters, covers an area of 1 million square meters, with 879 holes, 445 houses, 58 towers, 28 stupas in. This hundreds of hillside stacked-built houses, layered connected until Peak, constitute a unique world royal palace. Site to the west is a cliff, some localities have built three outside walls, defense facilities set up, and the complex internal connected road connected, it just shows us what a prosperous kingdom at that time. Not only for more than 1,000 years ago, but also for nowadays, it is just a unbelievable mission to build up such a brilliant palace on this deserted 4500-metre high plateau!

The ruins of the ancient city was first inspected by a British man named Mike hose • Young. In 1912, he set out from the Elephant Spring which located in India, traced back along the water, and finally got here and revealed the Guge kingdom to the world. Since then, lots of explorers, hikers, photographers and artists continued visiting here. But the real scientific expedition was took by the Tibet culture management authority in 1985. Although numerous constructions, murals and bronzes had been excavated, but the history of the Guge Kingdom has always been a mystery to the world!

Several years ago, I read something about the Guge Kingdom in an historical book which is about the Tibet, ever since then, the mysterious and faraway country impressed deeply upon my mind and attracting me all day long. In 2003, I , together with some of my friends, rushed to leave for the Guge city taking some shootings.Being the first time visiting the high plateau, the high-plateau reaction distressed us seriously. Even one of my friend was taken to the first aid because of hydrocephalus. Hence we were compelled to return. But the impulse of getting more closer to the Kingdom was ever never strong. In the August,2007, a chance which Little did I dream of put in front of me, flying from the XinJiang province to the Tibet, and shooting from the aircraft! Like Maya culture which lost in the forests of South America, like the Pompeii ancient city which buried in the volcano ashes, the mankind’s civilization arrived unprecedented height and then is sealed to save pitilessly by God, but finally there would be 　　someone announce to the public this historic mystery, let the brilliancy see the light of day and shine once again sometime in future. I am the luckiest guy in the world having a chance standing here which is an unprecedented level and discover this brilliant ancient city!

Boarding on the helicopter with opening door, from Keshi to Yecheng, from Yecheng to Shiquan river, to Pulan…elevation of more than 5,000 meters altitude, surrounding by cold north wind, thin air and chaos clouds, living in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, overcoming altitude reaction and the fear of keeping vacant, activating the shutter by rigid fingers... After a long wait and warm expectations, I finally realized that even in the air, finding the ancient Guge city among several hundred square kilometers of desert plateau was very difficult. And when it really appeared to me at the foot of the earth, I could not be self-sustaining tension! Our aircraft circled over Guge city. When the moment, which I had dreamed of thousands of day and night, was coming, I had been almost trembling all the time, mechanically pressed the shutter, in the minds of almost a blank! That was something I had never experienced in my more than 10 years of photographic history!

During the 15 days of photo taking, I obtained a new recognition of the world and life. Changing the perspective to observe the world means changing the attitude towards the life! The magnificent on the grand was just a small imprint of boundless universe, the millennium relics of Guge is just the glimpse of the history scroll. The insignificant human being cannot reach the vastness of the sky and measure the heaviness of the earth. The 97 volumes, total 1,200 pictures demonstrate my heart after soul baptism. As a photographer, I also take the responsibility to inform the public. As far as the   Geographic coordinates, Guge only belongs to Tibet, while from perspective of human history, the glory of the kingdom created by Guge people belongs to the world!
